Role of Arthrocentesis with and without steriod for internal derangement of TMJ
نویسنده
چکیده
Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the efficacy of arthrocentesis and to compare it with arthocentesis with steroid in the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) internal derangements. Materials and Methods: 9 males and 11 females aged between 17 to 39 years comprised the study material in the department of Oral &Maxillofacial surgery at Govt Dental College Srinagar(India). The patients’ complaints were limited mouth opening, and TMJ pain .Arthocentesis was performed under all aseptic conditions. Clinical evaluation of the patients was done before the procedure, and 1 week and 6 months after postoperatively. Intensity of TMJ pain and maximal mouth opening were recorded at each follow-up visit. Results: Both the groups showed significant improvement in mouth opening and reduction in pain scores in the post-operative period however the addition of steroid didn’t improve the total outcome of the procedure. Conclusions:Arthocentesis is simple and safe procedure for the patients of internal derangement with closed lock but addition of steroid doesn’t, improve the results. Correlation between condyle morphology and disk position of disc displacement in patients with TMJ internal derangements by magnetic resonance imaging
Background and Aims :The most frequent cause of TMJ dysfunction is internal derangement which that largely involves the function of the articular disc. Anterior disc displacement (ADD) is one of the major findings in TMJ internal derangement. Since the importance of knowledge of its etiology and also The role of all structural indicators association with TMD was not evaluated, in this researc...
متن کاملThe Disc Positioning after Arthroscopic Lysis and Lavage of the Tem- poromandibular Joint
The internal derangement (DI) of the Temporomandibular joint (TMJ), specifically those with disc displacement can be treated by many different kinds, implying that conservative and reversible treatments, for example: intra-oral devices, physiotherapy and medicines and, in some cases, it need surgical treatments like arthrocentesis, arthroscopy and open surgeries, each on with its own rate of ef...
متن کاملInternal derangements of the temporomandibular joint: the role of arthroscopic surgery and arthrocentesis.
Arthroscopic surgery appears to be a safe, minimally invasive and effective method for treating internal derangements of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), reducing pain and increasing mandibular range of motion for approximately 80% of patients. Although these results are encouraging, they are largely based on retrospective, uncontrolled and short-term studies. The landmark observation that ly...
متن کاملTemporomandibular joint arthrocentesis. Review of the literature
The treatment of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is still controversial. TMJ arthrocentesis represents a form of minimally invasive surgical treatment in patients suffering from internal derangement of the TMJ, especially closed lock. It consists of washing the joint with the possibility of depositing a drug or other therapeutic substance. Resolution of symptoms is due to the removal of chemi...
متن کاملAccuracy Rate of Clinical Diagnosis of Disc Displacement without Reduction in Temporomandibular Joint Using MRI
Introduction: Internal derangement (ID) of TMJ is the most common type of temporomandibular disorders after muscle disorders and includes all disorders related to incoordination and dislocation of disc and condyle. Anterior disc displacement without reduction or closed lock will happen if the disc or condyle displaces severely or if the disc traps in the space in front of the condyle accompanie...
